Congratulations to Patrick, who won Best Pitch at the Innovation Centre at this year's Field Days.
Patrick invented the Gudgeon Pro 4 in 1 - a fencing tool, used to quickly and accurately hang gates - for the Matamata Intermediate Science Fair last year.
The Pro works as a drill guide, marking out precise measurements for gudgeon placement, without the use of a measuring tape. It can also be used as a leveler, has five and seven wire marking for wire placement, and is batten height, so can be used as a measure for post ramming.
This year Patrick was given the opportunity to pitch his agricultural invention to a panel of judges at the Innovation Centre at the National Agricultural Fieldays, where he was given the tick of approval by a panel of business moguls and his idol, entrepreneur Sir William Gallagher. The centre showcases some of the best industry developments and inventions with the potential to improve New Zealand farming practices, so we are immensely proud of him
Patrick also caught the attention of Vodafone head of rural marketing, Darren Hopper, who has invited him and his parents to a meeting with the Vodafone marketing team.
Patrick has already secured a patent for his invention, and with the help of Gavin Haddon at Cooper Aitken, has set up two companies under his name.
Well done, Patrick!
WINNERS! - BOP Literacy Challenge
The Kids' Lit Quiz is annual literature competition for children aged 10-13.
This year Mrs McLennan took 2 teams to the Bay of Plenty Literacy Quiz, held at Tauranga Intermediate on May 30. One of our teams managed a nail biting win in the final over Awakeri Primary- the school that won the world finals last year.
They then attended the nationals at Wellington on the 12th June where they placed 6th. The competition was won by Takapuna Normal School who will be leaving for South Africa shortly for the Worlds!
A great effort and congratulations for a fantastic effort from our competitors!
Special thanks too, to Mrs McLennan for giving up much of her own time to tutor our students!
